immigrant

Nowadays, more and more immigrants move to the United States. The United States is an international country; moreover, we have to pay attention to the difference of cultures. There are some differences about the types of communication between China and the United States.
As an immigrant who have been the United States for one year, they focus on understanding nonverbal communication of the native English speakers because there are a lot of differences. First, in China, there are less eye contact and touch. For example, in China, if a teenager look at the elderly directly, he will be seem not respect the elderly. However, in the United States, people think more eye contact mean understanding and respect. Second, in the United States, people greet friends with a loving hug. But, in China, we never do that because people think hugging each other is really strange. Moreover, we don’t like people who take into our space.
On the other hand, a lot of native English speakers start to study second language that can help them understand immigrants well. In the United States, there are a lot of immigrants speak Spanish, and they cannot speak English very well. However, we are living in the same country, so native English speakers study Spanish that can get good communication between native English speakers and Spanish immigrants. Also, native English speakers can learn the different cultures.
In conclusion, though there are a lot of differences between the differnet cultures, we can try to learn and understand the different culture.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your blog. Being of hispanic descent, I find it very interesting to learn about other cultures. Every culture has different customs, and I believe that if people live in the united states it is very important for them to speak the english language. More opportunities are offered to people who are bilingual.
